A Culture Steeped In Religion
Every area of the Japanese life is centered around Buddhist or Shintoist practices. From sitting down to eat, to festivals and celebrations, there is always a connection to various religions. However, many Japanese view religion more as a part of their cultural traditions than as an aspect of faith. Seeing religion and culture so intertwined, changing to Biblical Christianity from Buddhism and Shintoism is often seen as rejecting ones own culture.

A New Generation Emerges
With the American influence being continually introduced, the mindset of the Japanese youth has changed drastically in recent years. While many still practice Shinto and Buddhist traditions, many are now drifting away from the religion of their ancestors. They are shifting their focus toward career, convenience, and pleasure. This presents a new opportunity to reach those who may be more open to the Gospel as well as still trying to reach those who are deep into their ancestors' religion and traditions.
